Safety, Support and Culture
Yesterday, the Australian construction industry faced a grim reality; a hardworking colleague in a fellow company passed away unexpectedly on site. The impact reverberated through our industry, serving as a heartbreaking reminder of the real risks faced daily by those who work tirelessly to shape our cities, towns, and landscapes.
At KBG, we want to take this moment to reinforce an important message to all our team members – nothing, be it schedules, plans, project size or client identity, is worth getting hurt or killed over. Amid the urgency of project deadlines and the drive to achieve excellence, it’s crucial to remember the true worth of what we work for.
Our work is ultimately about the betterment of lives, and that starts with our own. Behind every worker at KBG, there’s a mother or a father, a son or a daughter, a brother or a sister. When you kiss your loved ones goodbye in the morning, they expect and need you to return home safely. They deserve to enjoy the fruits of your hard work, and more importantly, they deserve to enjoy you. The loss of a life in our industry is a loss for numerous families, friends, and communities. It’s a wake-up call that safety isn’t just a concept or a checkbox. It’s the foundation upon which we build our lives.
When a tragic event like this occurs, it leaves a significant mental impact. The effect might be instantaneous, or it might surface months later. It’s essential to acknowledge these emotional repercussions and ensure you have access to the support you need. Whether it’s confiding in a family member, speaking with a trusted friend, or reaching out to a mental health professional, no one should face these challenges alone.
At KBG, we’re not just a team – we’re a family. And being part of this family means that we’re here for each other through the good and the bad. It’s this sense of unity, empathy, and resilience that creates our culture. Culture isn’t a buzzword to be thrown around; it’s the collective embodiment of our values, beliefs, and interactions.
In light of this tragedy, let’s strengthen our commitment to safe work practices, mental health support, and the cultivation of a culture that genuinely cares for each other. Let us remember that every hard hat in our work site contains a world – a world of dreams, aspirations, responsibilities, and loved ones waiting at home.
Our deepest condolences go out to the affected family and the company facing this terrible loss. In honour of our fallen colleague, let us reaffirm our commitment to safety, support, and solidarity. At KBG, we understand that our strength lies in our unity, our resilience lies in our support for each other, and our success lies in the safe return of every worker to their loved ones at the end of the day.
Remember, KBG is here for you – today, tomorrow, and every day that follows. Together, we can build structures that stand tall and lives that stand safe.
