What are some quick overview points?
Civil Construction is generally government tendered and are either national or state infrastructure-based projects. These civil projects generally include Substations, transmission lines, roads, bridges, airports and runways both domestically and rural, sewer systems, tunnels, dams, subdivisions, water reservoirs, Irrigation, Environmental Engineering and the list goes on.
Civil Construction Project’s range in duration, from only a few months to 10+ years.
The government will generally tender the project as a whole, which a Contractor will win. From there the project is broken down into areas or expertise, capability and availability which the Contractor is responsible. You will often find multiple sub-contractors filling these positions and working alongside the Contractor.
Commercial Construction is based in the private sector, and usually is performed to sell a completed project for industry use. Generally contractors are engaged by a developer or building/land owner to perform a new construction project or in many cases essentially a “remodel” or renovation of existing structures to suit the intended industry use.
A few examples of Commercial Construction are Warehouses, Office Blocks, Shopping Centers, Automated and Manual Factories, Retail Outlets, Supermarkets. Essentially a structure that is directly used by a business or charity in it’s everyday operations.
